Manual Therapies

Soft Tissue Manual Therapies are some of the most effective and beneficial therapies for improving neuro-musculoskeletal disorders and general health and wellbeing. Although we do not offer massage therapy in this office (however, we hightly recommend it!) we do offer various forms of soft tissue manual therapies that play vital roles in our care plans for our patients.

The soft tissues of the body are amazing and resilient, however, they are very rarely given the respect they deserve. Here at Basic Health Chiropractic & Rehab, we have a thorough understanding of just how important the various soft tissues of the body are, and what various roles soft tissue manual therapies can play in a care plan.

For example, think of the muscles of the body as the guide wires that hold us up. In a healthy person, each muscle has the proper length, elasticity, contractility and function. This allows the body to work at its most optimum. However, due to injuries, poor posture or repettitive stress - the muscles of the body can begin to function differently than they normally would. Adhesions, or scar tissue, can form in muscle tissues and prevent normal contraction and elasticity. Often some muscles become short and tight, while other can become too long and too weak as a result of misuse and poor posture. This results in poor biomechanical function that can be expressed in a wide variety of symptoms and ill health. If left unaddressed, these imbalances can prevent full recovery and increase the rate of reoccurance.

Dr. Ray is trained in a wide variety of soft tissue manual therapies such as Myofascial Release Technique, PNF and Trigger Point Therapy, just to name a few. From this knowledge base Dr. Ray can effectively implement various forms of therapies into your care plan as they are needed to help free up soft tissue adhesions, reduce muscular stress and to improve tissue quality in terms of elasticity and contractility.
