The upper back is an architectural wonder!  Most people don’t think too much about it, but to a chiropractor…it’s pretty amazing.

The upper to mid back or the thoracic spine is unique from the rest of the spine in that it is attached to the rib cage AND it plays a significant roll in shoulder AND neck function.

Misalignments of the vertebra in the upper region of the thoracic spine can have a huge effect on several other structures.  All of which can cause painful symptoms.

When someone presents to their MD for upper back pain…the most common two treatment options recommended by the MD are medications or to refer out to physical therapy.  While these options my get some relief – temporarily – they usually fail to handle upper back pain symptoms long term.

The reason for this is simple.  Most upper back pain symptoms, like the ones I listed above, are the end result of the vertebral subluxation complex.  It is true that there are other things that can mimic the same sensations, but the research purports that only a few of those cases are from sources that are non-mechanical in nature.
